June 14, 2006 – A 20-year old woman was killed riding her bicycle in Montreal’s Ville St. Pierre district just shortly after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13. She was riding on St. Pierre Street-a popular connector route between the City’s “West End” and the Lachine Canal bike path-under the Highway 20 viaduct in an area that is currently under construction. While trying to get up onto the sidewalk, she fell onto the street where she was hit by a truck. The truck driver was stopped by other drivers a short distance away and apparently didn’t realize that he had hit the young woman.
The cyclist, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival at hospital. Local police are treating the incident as an accident.
