March 17, 2006 – Canadian track rider Yannick Morin placed eighth in
the 1K track time trial on Thursday at the Commonwealth Games in
Melbourne, Australia.
Australia’s Ben Kersten won gold in the event with a time of 1:1.815,
ahead of England’s Jason Queally at 1:01.849, and Scotland’s Chris
Hoy at 1:02.071.
Morin completed the event in 1:7.621 seconds saying, “This was more
or less a preparatory event for me, since I don’t specifically train
for the 1K time trial anymore. My time today (Thursday) is about one
second slower than my personal best, which I performed at altitude on
the Calgary track.”
This Sunday Morin will be the first to start for Canada in the Team
Sprint. Rounding out the team are Cam Mackinnon and Travis Smith,
both from Alberta. At the Sydney Track World Cup last month the trio
established a personal best in the team sprint.
