August 30, 2002, (Kaprun, Austria) – Fourteen women and sixty-seven men
were registered to compete for the honour of the first 4-Cross World
Championship Title. The spectator-friendly format was initiated into UCI
status just recently when it was added as a 2002 World Cup event. The
qualification runs were held earlier Saturday morning in Kaprun, Austria.

The top four men who qualified today are also the top four men leading the
2002 World Cup 4-Cross Series. With one event remaining in the series,
Brian Lopes (USA) is only six points ahead of second place ranked rider
Cedric Gracia from France. Lopes qualified first today, followed by fellow
American Eric Carter in 2nd place. Gracia was third. Wade Bootes (AUS)
rounded out the top four.

Fresh off a World Championship Gold Medal win, France’s Anne-Caroline
Chausson qualified first in the women’s 4-Cross today. Australia’s Katrina
Miller (currently ranked 3rd in the world) qualified second. France’s
Sabrina Jonnier (currently ranked 2nd in the world) was third. Australian
Tai Lee Muxlow has qualified for fourth place.
