November 26, 2006 — Tragic news struck the Gent Six-day in Belgium yesterday as 31-year-old Spanish rider Isaac Galvez (Caisse d’Epargne), world champion on the track, died as a result of a crash with Belgium’s Dimitri De Fauw during the final madison. Galvez was resuscitated at the track but later died en route to the hospital. The event was immediately cancelled.

Galvez was the Madison World Championship with partner Juan Llaneras in 1999 and earlier this year in April. He became a pro in 2000 with Kelme-Costa Blanca, and his first pro win was Classica del Almeria that year.
