August 12, 2002 (Woodstock,ON) – On a hot, final day, the 2002 National Championships culminated with some exciting crit racing. A title event, the criterium event does not award a National Champion jersey to the winners. Nonetheless, almost all of the same riders showed up to race out the points in classic racing style. In the men’s race, Eric Wohlberg vented his frustration at not being able to break away by lapping the field and cinching the victory. Behind him, Min Van Velzen (Sympatico), Charles Dionne (7-Up-NutraFig) finished ahead on points taking the silver and bronze medals.

In the women’s race, Andrea Hannos took advantage of an early breakaway to win enough points to secure the victory, although she was tied with Carrie Tuck (Alberta). Hannos took the gold as she had more first place points. Tuck found herself in a breakaway at the end, but could not secure enough points to overtake Hannos. Marsh Cooper (Devo/Powerbar) took the Junior event, and Ed Makarchuk (Halton Road and Trail) took the victory over long time former National Team rider Yannick Cojan (Martin Swiss/ Sport Experts) in the master men race.
