Winter Training Opportunities and Clinics at Burnaby Velodrome

November 27, 2007 – The Burnaby Velodrome is offering several opportunities for riders to get in quality winter track workouts indoors and learn the ways of track racing through clinics. Structured coaching sessions are offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Wednesday evenings. As well, Match Sprint and Madison Clinics are coming up in December.

Structured coaching sessions
(Tuesday and Thursday mornings, Wednesday evenings)

There are Elite structured training sessions on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 – 4 PM. Workouts will be provided by Provincial coach or BVC coach as needed or guidance and timing for self-directed athletes. On the same week Junior Structured training will start running from 4 – 5:30 PM run by BVC and BC Coach. Please contact BVC coach Jeremy Storie to become involved in either of these programs.

Fee for the training will be $5- $10 depending on the program. Training is free to members with a Training Pass or a Race Pass

Match Sprint Clinics

Come out and give match sprinting a try. This series of clinics will be led by multi-time National sprint discipline medallist and Champion Matt Chater. Matt will take you through all the steps from qualifying to gear selection to tactics and skills and a small sprint tournament.

The clinics will run: Sunday Dec 2 from 3 – 5 PM, Wednesday December 5th from 6:30 – 8 PM, and finishing Sunday December 9th 3 – 5 PM.

The prerequisite for this clinic is Learn to Ride and race completion and you need to have done a couple of Friday night races. Fees for this series are $75 for non members. This includes drop in fee but no rental bike. $30 for members and no charge for training/racing pass holder.

Madison Clinics

The Six Day is approaching and you want to ride the Madison events?

Come out and learn how to ride the Madison and get ready for the 6 day race. Madison training is some of the best training you can do on the track as the skill level required is very high as is the fitness component. If you can master the Madison you are well ahead of the game for any racing you might do.

This series of clinics will be led by BVC coach Jeremy Storie. Jeremy will take you through all the steps from basic individual Madison skills to gear selection to tactics and skills and a small Madison race. The clinics will run Wednesday December 12 and 19th from 6:30 – 8 PM, Saturday December 15 from 7-8:30 PM and conclude on Friday December 21 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM., The prerequisite for this clinic is Learn to Ride and Learn to Race completion and you need to racing at a minimum of B level.

Fees for this series are

$100 for non members. This includes drop in fee but no rental bike. $40 for members and No charge for training/racing pass holder. Please sign up by emailing jeremy@burnabyvelodrome.ca

Other coached programs

Tuesday and Thursday mornings will have the BVC coach present to provide a variety of workouts to riders. Coach will be available one of Tuesday or Thursday and workouts will be available shortly on website.

On Wednesdays there will be a skills session from 5:30-6:30 PM for beginner to intermediate levels which will include skills on sprinting, pursuiting, motorpacing, warm ups and much more. Cost is part of your membership or drop-in fee. Each skill session will be scheduled and presented on the website shortly with no sign up required.

Also on Wednesdays, there will be a workout session from 6:30 – 8 PM for intermediate to advanced levels which will include speedwork, speed endurance and endurance training as well as advanced skills such as Madison. This will be a continuation from the Wednesday night skill sessions. Cost is part of your membership or drop-in fee. Each workout will be scheduled and presented on the website shortly with no sign up required.
