November 9, 2007 (San Diego, CA) – “Every winter I lived and trained in New York, I wished for a budget-friendly, low-stress winter cycling camp that would allow me to get in solid base miles uninhibited by ice, snow, and cold. Now that I live in sunny San Diego and have experienced some of the best year-round cycling in the nation, I’ve decided to make such a winter camp a reality.” “” Robert Panzera/Cycling Camp San Diego
About Cycling Camp San Diego
While escaping winter, campers will get in over 300 miles and 25,000 feet of climbing on the same roads that the local riders and pros traverse. Ride from the ocean to 6,000 feet above sea level, including rides to the famed Mount Palomar and Mount Laguna; ride on roads closed to traffic in some of California’s most majestic state parks; and experience the mild weather that makes San Diego famous. While taking on these fun challenges, you’ll be guided by ride leaders who are national champions, pros, talented locals, and just kind-hearted, energetic, knowledgeable individuals. All the while, you will be achieving the best racing and touring shape of your life.
Camp Design
This camp is designed for anyone who can handle approximately 300 miles of riding over 5 days. It is important to understand that those 300 miles will be at base camp speed””long and slow. This training paradigm, which has been proven effective over many years and put in place by many pro riders, allows cyclists of all abilities to ride together. This is not a camp where you will be hammering. Instead, it is a camp where you can build your base in a properly focused way. The goal is for you to hit racing or touring season a few months later with a body that is well prepared but not worn out!
CCSD firmly believes that our proven riding style and training paradigm will benefit all who can handle rides of 60 miles for 5 days straight””from the serious touring cyclist to the serious Cat 1 cyclist! Come and see””you may be surprised at how easy the camp ride leaders, themselves racers and pros, actually ride. “Go slow to go fast!”
Camp and Ride Leaders
Our camp and ride leaders are all certified coaches with strengths in many individual areas. CCSD prides itself on well-spoken, educated, attentive leaders who can safely guide you through ride nutrition, future interval training, and very specific aspects of cycling sport (i.e., time trialing, long-distance riding, road racing, criterium training, cornering and descending, etc). CCSD ride leaders are chosen because they believe cycling is a way of life, and they want to spread the enjoyment they have received from the sport to other riders.
CCSD Quality
For an affordable cost, campers receive a shuttle from San Diego to a designated home-base hotel, dinner on the night before start of camp, unlimited energy drink, unlimited energy gels and bars, handouts, talks, and professional coaching both on the road and through a lecture series.
It is CCSD’s intention to always keep costs at a minimum, so CCSD has surrounded itself with people who really believe in cycling and bringing the sport of cycling to as many people as possible without breaking the bank. The home-base hotel is chosen for its proximity to rides, cleanliness, and closeness to available services when not riding. Dinner locations are chosen at affordable spots within walking distance to the home-base hotel.
This year, CCSD will feature SAG support for all rides. The SAG support will include professional service from mechanics who have served in the Tour of California.
CCSD Commitment
CCSD is committed to providing its campers with the best winter training experience possible, with a real emphasis on the bike. We realize that campers are spending vacation days, time, and money to explore one of their passions, and our wish is to make their cycling camp experience positive and memorable.
