May 8, 2008 (Vancouver, BC) – The BC Cancer Foundation’s Westside Cycling Classic offers the incentive trip of a lifetime to France through Sports Tours Cycling – the ultimate 10-day travel getaway for two this July – an all-expense VIP guided trip to the 2008 Tour de France is top prize at this cycling fund raiser!
Whether you are an avid cyclist and want to ride one of the same stages as your cycling heroes in the Tour de France, or prefer to sit back and watch from a picturesque French café sipping on wine and nibbling cheese, here is a great opportunity for the trip of a lifetime this July. The winner of the prize tour will have exclusive access to areas of the Tour not open to the ordinary tourist.
The BC Cancer Foundation”šs Westside Cycling Classic presented by the Airey Group on June 1, is offering a luxury “žLive the Dream”° tour for two to the Tour de France as a unique prize for the top fundraiser. It also offers the chance for participants to ride with Trevor Linden, Tour de France veterans Axel Merckx, and Alex Stieda, and Olympian snowboarder Ross Rebagliati, who are all participating in the charity event.
For the best chance to win the trip to France in July, cyclists need to register and start fundraising right away, either online at www.cycleforcancer.com or by phone at 604-696-BIKE. The event website provides a home page and tools to make fundraising easy.
Andrew Gregory, a cancer survivor who raised funds for a similar event last year, is riding in the BC Cancer Foundation”šs Westside Cycling Classic and said, “žI found that fundraising using the online tools was surprisingly easy. I encourage people to join me in the BC Cancer Foundation”šs Westside Cycling Classic and maybe win a dream trip to the Tour de France!”°
Keen cyclists can set a competitive pace on the 36km course, while others can cruise at a leisurely pace and enjoy the UBC”šs scenic endowment lands. The family-oriented event is open to recreational cyclists of any age and ability, and offers a shorter route for children aged four to 11.
The prize trip includes airport transfers, return flights to Paris, 10 days in France, with the first and last two days and nights in Paris, plus five nights in the beautiful ski town of Serre Chevalier, and two nights in the spa city of Vichy, famous for its mineral water. The trip also includes the opportunity, for the first time ever, to ride an entire stage of the Tour de France on the same day as the competitors, to take photos of the winners on the Tour podium, and VIP viewing of the finish stage. Other features include meeting tour champions and legends from the past five decades, and priority access to the finish area on the Champs-Elysées.
