April 29, 2008 (Whistler, BC) – The words “extreme” and “eco-friendly” are used with such frequency these days, it’s tough to tell who’s walking the walk and who’s talking the talk. At age 19, Chad Hendren lay in two feet of pow in Mt. Baker backcountry after he “double ejected, scorpioned and coughed up blood” in a nasty fall skiing into a blind ravine. With no insurance and faced with a $5,000 chopper bill to get him out of there, Hendren drove home to Vancouver and a subsequent six month stay in a body cast with a broken back. Six months after getting out he moved to Whistler to get really serious about skiing and mountain biking. He would go on to win the final Sudan Couloir GS race for 20-29 years-olds. Now that’s extreme.
Bamboo is an annual renewable resource “”” like wheat you simply harvest it once a year from the same field. And unlike cotton, bamboo does not require pesticides or man-made irrigation to grow. Bamboo is also 100 per cent biodegradable in soil, meaning its decomposition does not pollute the environment. And bamboo requires much less energy to process into yarn than cotton does. Now that’s eco-friendly.
Whistler’s Dincus Apparel, co-owned by pro mountain bike rider Hendren and Greg McMillan, has launched the industry’s first “eco-friendly extreme” fashion line for those who take their outdoor fun seriously and always with a sense of style. The full line of men’s and women’s “extreme and eco-friendly” summer wear for the 2009 season includes technical mountain bike shorts for men, technical jerseys for men and women, woven shirts, cargo and casual shorts, jeans, t-shirts and hoodies (colour photos available).
All streetwear products are made from an organic blend of original bamboo (70 per cent) and organic cotton (30 per cent). In addition to being a great ecological choice for Ma Nature, bamboo contains “˜kun,’ a unique antimicrobial bio-agent that provides awesome natural antibacterial, antifungal and odor-resistant properties. In other words, wear Dincus on your next road trip and you won’t have to ride back with the bikes if you forget a change of clothes. And on the dance floor, you’ll definitely be the coolest.
For all that substance there’s also cutting-edge style to this revolutionary line, including forward-thinking graphics and kick-ass colours that make bold fashion statements on the trail or in the club. Functional, fun and form-fitting, the Dincus Apparel summer wear line up is all about feeling and looking fresh, and also about being ecologically responsible.

Dincus Apparel is the brainchild of fun-seeking friends Chad Hendren and Greg Thompson, the original Dincii. From humble t-shirts-in-the-trunk beginnings in 2005, the company has expanded to include a full summer clothing line.
