July 22, 2004 – CrankWorx launches from Thursday, July 22 to Sunday, July 25, with a four-day festival of action on and off the slopes. Renowned for wild progressive mountain biking with the best professional freeride mountain bikers in the world, CrankWorx also offers an extensive array of ways for the local community to get involved.
* THE CRANKWORX EXPO: Whistler Village will come alive with displays and demos available from top mountain bike brands and event sponsors. Come watch the famous Baia Brothers and Dangerous Dan and the Flowshow put on some incredible daily demonstrations. Be sure to visit Day Skier Lot 1 to see the “Tech Area” where the big rigs from all the mountain bike manufacturers will be all set up to service their sponsored riders (great for catching autographs!).
* SPECTATOR INSIDER INFO: The feature events of the Nissan Biker-X (Friday 3:00-6:00pm) and the Siemens Mobile Slopestyle (Saturday 6:00-8:00pm) are the “don’t miss” events! You can watch the entire runs from the Skiers Plaza or hike up and watch the show next to your favourite feature on the course! The training and qualifier heat for the Slopestyle event are on the Friday night and will be for “those in the know” to catch some of the action as the pro’s get their tricks wired.
* CRANKWORX MAINSTAGE ENTERTAINMENT: A great mix of Rock, Reggae and punk bands will perform on the stage, free for all to take in through the weekend. On Friday, watch for Los Furious and Billy and the Lost Boys and on Saturday you catch the eclectic sounds of the Yoko Casionos with Curtis Santiago opening up earlier that afternoon. Hang out close to the stage around each performance and you’ll be sure to catch some of our great sponsor swag we’ll be giving away!
* VOLUNTEER: Organizers are still looking to fill some key shifts and you can get great value from mountain bike passes, Whistler Recreation Centre passes and chances to win other great prizes. E-mail: crankworx@telus.net or drop by the TELUS Conference Centre for more info.
* LITTLE RIPPER KIDS RACE: On Saturday all kids ages 4-12, come out to the SuperPages Tent in the Village Square ($5 donation to WORCA for entry) with great prizes. All kids get a souvenir bike plate just like the pro’s have! A fun course will be built through the village for all the little rippers to enjoy.
* CRUISER BIKE PARADE: One-speed bikes and back pedal to brake is the rage again! This Sunday, come and dress up you and/or your bike and register at the SuperPages tent in the Village Square before 2:00pm ($2 donation to WORCA). Judges will award some great prizes from Garbanzo Bike and Bean then the RMOW will lift the bylaw for 30 minutes for a parade lead by a marshal through the village.
* COMPETE: The CrankWorx races are open to more than just pro’s ! Amateurs and juniors can compete with a $60 per event fee with a multi event discount ($5 WORCA donation gives you a park pass too!) and we have great prizes (all first place winners receive a Siemens Mobile phone plus lots more!)
* GET OUT AND RIDE: Yes the park is OPEN the entire time with some minor modifications for slope training and competitions. Watch for posted closures at the base of the lifts.
* JOIN INTO THE PARTY ACTION: From a special screening of “The Collective” on Saturday night at the GLC ($5 at the door) to a endless list of parties hosted by sponsors and industry manufactures – it is time to work all your connections to get those valuable tickets those private parties!
