Whistler Fat Tire Crit

July 18, 2003 (Whistler, BC) – Whistler village shut down for one evening last night for racers to compete in the Whistler Gravity Festival Fat Tire Crit.

It turned out that most riders didn't want to burn out their legs two days before nationals and the turn-out was less than optimal. The crowds were stellar however and they did cheer on the talented, but small, group of riders.

Susan Haywood (Trek-Volkswagen) was the only woman to race, and the organizers put her in with the men. Maxxis-Trek rider Kashi Leuchs from New Zealand was in attendance to challenge some of the local riders.

Riders raced for twenty-five minutes plus three laps. Halfway into the race, three men broke away, Adam Craig, Kashi Leuchs, and Brent Miller. In the end Craig won the sprint finish, Miller was second, and Leuchs, after crashing, came in third on the cobblestone course.

Susan Haywood won her category.

Results: Men: 1. Adam Craig 2. Brent Miller 3. Kashi Leuchs

Women: 1. Susan Haywood
