May 29, 2007 (Whistler, B.C.) — The laws of gravity were meant to be broken, and there’s no better way to hone your gravity defying skills than at the Whistler Mountain Bike Park’s Summer Gravity Camps (SGC), which kick off on July 15.
The camps focus on dirt jumping, drops, cornering, North shore riding and Whistler Blackcomb’s own brand of freeride MBX. SGC include airport transfers, meals, a six-day park pass to North America’s leading lift-accessed mountain bike park, slope side accommodation, and six days of hands-on coaching.
“Our coaching staff is amazing with fresh recruits for 2007 including Cam Zink, last years Crankworx slopestyle winner,” says Andrew Shandro, X Games gold medalist and SGC director. “Our coaching staff is fantastic. I’m stoked that all of the big name pros want to coach for SGC.”
The SGC’s hand-picked selection of rippin’ coaches includes Red Bull Rampage winners, numerous ex and current National Downhill Champions, and dirt jump comp winners. The first six-day camp, which begins July 15 features Cam-Squared coaching by Cam McCaul and Cam Zink; first and second slopestyle finishers from last season’s Kokanee Crankworx, Whistler Blackcomb’s annual mountain bike festival.
The camp also features the return of the 10,000 square-foot Air Dome, a unique covered freeride bike training facility.
“The Air Dome was a huge success last year and continues to set us apart from other mountain bike freeride camps,” says Shandro. “The Air Dome has allowed our campers to progress and elevate their riding in a controlled and safe environment. Our campers last year were ripping it up.”
This year, all campers will receive a pair of Nike 6.0 shoes, a Helly Hansen jersey, and JBL headphones. SGC also has a stellar arsenal of other prizes, including JBL iPod docking stations, Giro helmets, limited edition SGC Dakine backpacks, and bike parts from Fox, Saint, Bontrager, and ODI.
SGC for youth run from July 15 to August 5, with an adult-only week from August 12-19.
