July 15, 2003 (Whistler, BC) – “I guess I have to party again, it'll be the fifth day in a row!” Cedric Gracia of France was obviously happy about his second win of the week, fresh off his victory in the Joyride BikerCross 2003. The DH racing was on A-line, one of Whistler Bike Park's more highly traveled trails.

Gracia was the second to last rider to go off. Just before him Bas De Bever pulled off the top time of the day. But De Bever's time on top didn't last long. Gracia beat De Bever by five tenths of a second. Greg Minnaar was only one second behind De Bever, in third. Local freerider and talented rider, Thomas Vanderham was fourth.

In the women's race it was Tracey Moseley who came out on top, riding almost four seconds faster than Netherlands rider, Anneke Beerten. Sabrina Jonnier of France rounded out the podium in third. Canada's Claire Buchar was fourth, and Canadian rider, Michelle Dumaresq was fifth.

Dumaresq, riding for the John Henry Bike Shop, commented on the day's course. “The course is not really meant for downhill racing. It's meant for air-time. When you're trying to do it against the clock, it's not really designed that way. You really have to suck up these jumps, rather than go for air-time. They're built for air. Hence the name, Air Downhill, air equals slow in downhill racing, so you try to suck them up and take them low and pedal. It's tough, this is a tough course to pedal through.”

Gracia agreed about the length of the course and how tough it can be. “When you get tired there are many difficulties, it starts to get slippery, you break too much, etc. It was all good, it was a fun course, but you have to pedal so fast!”
