Cycling BC's Annual General Meeting 2002 Highlights
-Since the Canadian BMX Association will officially cease operations as of December 31, 2002, Cycling BC has added BMX to its list of governed sports. A new VP in BMX was elected in Calvin Marsolais.
-Claire Bonin (Publisher/Editor of The Bicycle Paper) was elected as Cycling BCís new VP of Off-Road Racing. Bonin has been a strong promoter of successful mountain bike events in the past and used to work with the Canadian Cycling Association.
-Cycling BC has also allocated $12,000 of funds received from the 2010 Legacies Now Grant Fund towards cycling coaching programs.
-Coaching will now be a part-time staffing role at Cycling BC.
-The Shimano Dirt Series attracted over 200 women to their 2002 mountain biking clinics.
-After presentations to the City of Burnaby, the Burnaby Velodrome has received $100,000 in funding from the city.

The Future of the Canadian BMX Association
For those of you that don't know, the Canadian BMX Association will no longer be in operation as of December 31st, 2002. Earlier this spring Cycling BC and the Canadian BMX Association reached an agreement. Please see the following press release that was released on the CBA's website earlier this year, http://www.canadianbmx.com/. The CBA is very pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with the Canadian Cycling Association to integrate their operations with the CCA's provincial associations.

There will be an initial transitional period for the remainder of 2002, in which the CBA will continue their operations in conjunction with the Provincial Organizations. The CBA will dissolve its operation as of December 3 1st, 2002, by which time the Provincial Associations will have formed Provincial BMX committees to operate the BMX Divisions as of January 1, 2003. Cycling BC is pleased to immediately start working with the CBA and the RABC to ensure a smooth transition for the BMX riders and tracks into the Provincial Association. Cycling BC has requested that the RABC (Racing Association of British Columbia) form BC's BMX committee, and appoint a representative to be added to the Cycling BC Board as the Vice President-BMX. The CBA is looking forward to establishing a smooth transition with the Alberta and Saskatchewan Cycling Associations, with the help of the Alberta BMX Association, and the CCA Development Committee.

Alison Sydor Adds New Worlds Title
Team Trek-Volkswagen became the new World Champion Co-Ed Pro-Am Team when they crossed the line first in the 24 Hours of Moab/AMTRI World Championships in mid-October. BC Native Alison Sydor joined team-mates Susan Haywood, Jeremiah Bishop and Chris Eatough on the podium.

AMTRI is the Association of MTB Team Relays International.

Alison Sydor honoured in BC Women Champions Walk of Fame

Alison Sydor was selected as one of 31 athletes that are being recognized in the BC Women Champions Walk of Fame, a six-month long exhibit at the BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, which opened October 21. The exhibit honours the womenís contributions to sport and documents their legacies. Sydor was selected among 100 nominees. Other athletes who are now being displayed in the exhibit include Silken Laumann, Lori Bowden, Marni Abbot, Kelley Law Curling Rink (Law, Diane Nelson, Julie Skinner, Georgina Wheatcroft, Cheryl Noble), and members of the 2002 Canada Under-19 Soccer Team (Clare Rustad, Christine Sinclair, Heather Smith, Brittany Timko, Katie Thorlakson).
