Liège dates back to 1892 and is also considered the toughest of the classics. Hesjedal was caught with 5km to go by a small group of riders on the final big climb up Côte de Saint-Nicolas but his attack set the stage for his teammate Daniel Martin (Irl) to outfox Rodriguez Oliver (Esp) Katusha and score his first Classic victory
