May 3, 2007 – In today’s tough mountainous Stage 8, a 13-man break got up the road early. In this move the S-Team had Cam Evans and Christian Meier. The Columbians and Tecos had two riders as well in the move. The break had some really strong climbers from Costa Rica as well.

Symmetrics felt confident with Meier in the move, because of his climbing prowess. The other teams were unaware that Meier can climb as last year at this race we had him soft pedal the climb because he was out of the GC.

When the move hit the climb Meier held on for a beautiful third in the stage and has moved to second in GC. Wilson Zambrano of the Columbian team has taken the overall lead from Symmetrics’ Andrew Randell, who held it for six days.

Evans also had a very strong ride up the climb and we feel has moved up on GC. Svein Tuft rode a great stage and finished only one minute off of climber extraordinaire Ladino.

At this point we are uncertain of the times but we feel we have three riders potentially in the top 8 in GC. More importantly, if Tuft can keep his overall finish placing he should take over the UCI America Tour lead.
