Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Stages 3, 4 Results – Martin in Control

March 21, 2013 (Spain) – Nairo Alexander Quintana Rojas (Col) Movistar Team won the 180.1km Stage 3 of the 2013 Volta Ciclista a Catalunya which started in Vidreres and ended with a mountaintop finish at the summit of the Vallter 2000 ski resort. Rojas earned a 6s-advantage over his four nearest chasers, Alejandro Valverde Belmonte (Esp) Movistar Team, Joaquim Rodriguez Oliver (Esp) Katusha, and Bradley Wiggins (Gbr) Sky Procycling. Canadians Ryder Hesjedal (Can) Garmin-Sharp, Christian Meier (Can) Orica-GreenEdge, and Francois Parisien (Can) Team Argos-Shimano finished 50th, 108th, and 120th, respectively.

On Stage 2, it was Daniel Martin’s (Irl) Garmin-Sharp day to shine as he snagged a solo victory on the 217.7km queen’s stage from Llanars-Vall de Camprodon Port Ainé to Rialp. With his 36s-margin of victory, Martin also propelled himself into the overall lead.
