December 5, 2009 (Victoria, BC) – The Victoria Cycling Academy based at the Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence and in partnership with Canadian Sport Center Pacific and Cycling BC is set to open this January. The CSC-Pacific Victoria Cycling Academy will focus solely on developing young athletes, the mandate being to build Olympic Champions from kids right here in Victoria. Initial plans are for a junior (and younger) aged Academy Team that will start competition in the spring of 2010. The Academy team will be made up of the top young road, mountain bike and track racers in Victoria aged 16-18 years old. We will also run training camps to inspire and help kids from around BC to pursue cycling with the BC Games as a logical starting point to competition.
The CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy will start with 3 levels of athletes and as required multiple age and ability based training groups at each level.
CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy Youth Club
– The starting point; with new club programs that encourage participation and develop skills in cyclist 10-14 years old.
CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy Talent Team
– An introduction to cycling competitions and training at the local and Provincial level for athletes 12-18 years old.
CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy Pro2B Team
– Team BC and top Victoria based riders, aged 16-18, training under the guidance of CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy and Team BC coaches with aspirations of racing internationally.
