Victoria Academy of Cycling Welcomes New Riders

June 24, 2010 (Victoria, BC) – The Victoria Academy of Cycling (VAC) welcomes all new bike racers out to a couple informative and inspiring introductory rides this weekend! If you have dreams of being a pro racer or just want to race a bike with more speed and skill, we have a program for you. The Victoria Academy of Cycling works closely with the Cycling BC Provincial Team, hosting regular Team BC Training Camps in Victoria and VAC riders are eligible for many of the same Team BC testing and sport performance services offered by Canadian Sport Center-Pacific.

The Victoria Academy of Cycling offers its members;
– Discounts or free stuff from our sponsors
– Team issue custom cycling clothing
– Race travel and support. Road Trips! Travel to some of BC’s best races
– Indoor training at CSC-Pacific with use of state of the art CompuTrainer and SRM bike and the best equipped gym and weight room in Victoria
– Unsurpassed training opportunities in age and ability specific groups with BC’s best coaches
– Rides and mentor-ship from some of Canada’s top BC’s based pro riders

This weekends riders are for any rider new to bike racing aged 10-17 with a road bike in good working order and a helmet as an introduction to our programs and to help fit new riders into the best program for their current ability and fitness. All programs are designed to follow the Canadian Cycling Associations Long Term Athlete Development Model providing young athletes with a step by step pathway from entry level to elite competition.

In July, the Victoria Academy of Cycling will be running the following ongoing programs.

CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy Youth Club
– The foundation step and starting point
– To encourage participation and basic cycling skills development in 10-14 year old cyclists
– Aligned and working with Cycling BC Youth Team program and coaches in school programs
– CSC-Pacific Victoria Academy of Cycling initiated events (youth only races, other events) to bring all local riders together
– 2-3 rides per week with primarily skill and fun focus
– Victoria Academy of Cycling youth club jersey
– Cycling equipment and discounts as available from Academy sponsors
– Victoria Academy of Cycling Sport Education Seminars
– Cycling BC Insurance

CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy Talent Team (Bronze level Scholarship)
– Engaging 13-17 year old road, and MTB cyclists
– Introduction to locally based cycling competitions and training
2-4 coach lead rides and/or indoor sessions per week to build skill and fitness
– Victoria Academy of Cycling Team jersey, shorts and vest (extra kit at preferred prices)
– Cycling BC Insurance
– Select CSC-Pacific Provincial Team services
– Victoria Academy of Cycling Sport Education Seminars
– Invites to 2-3 per year Victoria based Team BC Training Camps
– Transportation and support to select Cycling BC events

CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy Pro2B Team (Silver level Scholarship)
– Engaging 15-18 year old Road and MTB cyclists
– Cycling BC Provincial Team Level riders (and potentially Team BC), training in Victoria under the guidance of CSC-Pacific Cycling Academy and Cycling BC Provincial Team coaches
– 3-5 coach lead rides and/or indoor sessions per week within a customized annual training plan
– Full coaching support including 3-4 X per year CSC-Pacific HP Lab tests
– Victoria Cycling Academy Sport Education Seminars
– Full CSC-Pacific Provincial Team Athlete services (including FoodStuff, Infinite, ToolKits, Medical Services)
– Inclusion in 3-5 per year Team BC Training Camps
– Team benefits including full Cycling Academy Team sponsor benefits. Free or discount bikes, parts etc. Full clothing kit and transport to races in BC.

Rides will start and finish at the Victoria Academy of Cycling based at the Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence located at 4371 Interurban Road.
