April 17, 2007 — Announcing and race commentating will be taken to a new level at the Summer Challenge: announcer extraordinaire Phil “˜Bilko’ Stephens will be working the microphone and the crowd during the three days of racing at the Burnaby Velodrome Summer Challenge, bringing his vast knowledge of track racing to the crowd and pumping up the excitement of this event!
While not a familiar face in the Pacific Northwest, Phil has over 20 years of racing experience, including a 2003 PanAm Master Scratch Championship. He also has over 15 years of announcing experience, including multiple Road and Track US National Championships, the 1998 IPC World Championships, and the NYC Goodwill Games. Having recently relocated to Seattle from Denver, he is excited to become part of the Pacific Northwest track scene!
The Summer Challenge will also feature several other exciting additions to event:
– La Bicicletta Proshop and South Shore Cycle will have an onsite mechanic pit crew, to make sure your bike is in top racing condition.
– Getting sore thinking about all this racing? The skilled Massage Therapists from Ocean Wellness will be setting up camp at the Velodrome, to help work out the lactic acid and keep you going all weekend.
– Would you like a new track bike? Well, here’s your chance! Enter in the draw to win a custom track frame from Naked Bicycles & Design, or one of several other exciting prizes in our big prize draw!
– A concession will be open through the entire event, serving sandwiches and other snacks.
Saeco Canada Ltd. will be serving free cappuccino and espresso the entire weekend!
– Friday and Saturday night will be brought to you in part by Red Truck Beer, and will feature the opportunity to sample their products!
