According to Suzanne Lareau, President and CEO of Vélo Québec: “The 2nd edition of Vélo sous zéro confirms the relevance of holding an annual winter cycling event North America’s most bicycle-friendly city. It is also in keeping with the commitment made by Vélo Québec as part of Je vois MTL to make Montrealers and visitors aware of the possibilities offered by winter biking.”

“After over 10 years of mobilizing citizens in favour of four-season cycling, ENvironnement JEUnesse is proud to partner once again with Vélo Québec through the Vélo sous zéro event, in order to emphasize the democratization of winter biking as a useful mode of transportation,” added Jérôme Normand, Executive Director of ENvironnement JEUnesse.

Organization of Vélo sous zéro
Some 1,000 cyclists are expected on Sunday, February 15, at 10 a.m. The start and finish will take place in front of the Bistro culturel Espace La Fontaine, located in the heart of the park of the same name. A portion of the 15-km route along streets open to traffic will follow the Montreal bike path.

Montreal: a four-season biking city
The popularity of four-season biking is definitely on the rise. The City of Montreal’s initiative to keep part of its bike path snow-free (240 km) demonstrates the importance it attributes to urban biking 12 months a year. This need for a four-season cycling network is motivated not only by increasingly mild winters, but also by an ever-growing number of people who want to bike virtually year-round.
