Velo NB Seeks Canada Games Staff

December 24, 2007 – Velo New Brunswick is looking for four people to work with the 2009 Canada Games cycling team. The Canada Games are often the first multi sport and major national level event our cyclists attend. The experience riders have at these Games can often be pivotal points in their careers as cyclists. Additionally, the Games are an opportunity to grow and develop into the sports leaders and fine adults that we all want our young riders to become.

There are four leadership positions associated with the New Brunswick Cycling team; two coaches, one manager, one mechanic. Qualifications are outlined below.

– Coach (2 positions available)
Both coaches must be fully certified as level three or higher, or the equivalent in the new NCCP, Competition stream, Development context (Trained status). In addition to the above requirement, one coach must be fully certified level two (technical & practical) for Mountain Bike, and the other coach must be fully certified level two (technical & practical) for Road. Equivalency under the new NCCP would be: Competition stream, Introduction context (Trained status) Coaches who do not have the full certification as required should indicate a willingness to attain the required certification by the time allowed. Velo NB will work with the selected coaches to ensure that their qualifications are acceptable in time for the Games.

– Manager (1 position available)
The candidate for manager ideally would have either coaching or commissaire experience and certification but experience as director sportif for a cycling team or other managerial experience would also be considered an asset.

– Mechanic (1 position available)
The candidate for mechanic should have experience as a team or shop mechanic and have travelled with cycling teams to other national level events. Again experience as a commissaire or coach would be considered an asset.

All candidates should be aware that the Canada Games themselves are a full week commitment in the summer of 2009 as well as travel to preparation events in the Eastern USA and other provinces will be necessary in both 2008 and early 2009. There is a substantial time commitment to these positions and applicants will need to be available for most if not all the selected events. Once candidates are selected for the positions, they will be fully involved in the selection of both the riders, and the preparatory camps and competitions which the team will attend. Candidates should also be aware that there is requirement for personnel of both genders within the makeup of the team staff.
