July 6, 2005 – Rocky Mountain Business Objects Freeride Star Thomas Vanderham proved again he is one of the best in the business at the second annual Monster Park Competition at Snowshoe West Virginia USA.
Not only did he take second place on the Podium after pulling off some huge moves…he did it all on a borrowed bike after his personalized RMX got lost by the airline.
Thomas threw in a Superman Seat Grab and hit one of the biggest jumps on the course to get narrowly beaten by Darren Berrecloth who pulled out a 360 off a massive drop in his final run.
Vanderham arrived Thursday to find no bike had turned up in West Virginia and the airline had no idea where it was or when it would arrive. Fortunately he had assistance from Team Manager and Team mechanic Andreas Hestler and Dave Atherton who were both there to support him at the event. Had it not been for some resourceful thinking and magical mechanics from the two Thomas might not have had a ride worthy bike.
Once Thomas’s custom white RMX looked to be a no show Andreas found an older Rocky Mountain (RMX 2003) by scouting the local bike shops. The Bike Shop at Snowshoe Mountain and their awesome helpful staff came through with the goods. Eventually they found someone who knew someone with an RMX the right size and managed to convince the owner to lend it to them. Mark Richard (the helpful soul who made his bike available) trustingly let the Rocky Mountain Crew walk away with his bike saying he had to make sure Thomas Vanderham would ride Monster Park. Thomas, although not too stoked about hanging it out on a strange bike, stayed totally Pro to put together one of the biggest rides of the year.
Congrats to Thomas V and the Rocky Mountain Business Objects team for a really Pro showing.
BIKE Magazine Editor Mitchell Scott added some words from the Event:
“Monstrous – that is the only word you can use to describe it. Everything from the riders to the jumps to the effort of everyone involved took on absolutely monstrous proportions at the second annual Bike Magazine Monster Park. Judging from the level of riding the crowd and the general riding psyche of mountain biking in West Virginia the contest was a complete success. This is what 1,000 plus lucky fans saw in the woods of Snowshoe West Virginia: Vanderham going massive off a jump that only he Timo Pritzel and Super T would have the nerve to hit and he did it all on a borrowed bike..
When the dust settled here are the core riders who took the top 10 spots.
1. Darren Berrecloth, Specialized
2. Thomas Vanderham, Rocky Mountain Business Objects
3. Jamie Goldman
4. Steve Romaniuk
5. Cameron Zink
