July 30, 2004 – Just a reminder that Critical Mass is this Friday, so come out and join fellow bicyclists, skaters, and bladers for a leisurely and spirited roll and ride through the streets of Vancouver. Meet at the Vancouver Art Gallery on the Georgia Street side between 5:00 to 5:30 p.m., and roll and ride at around 6:00 p.m.

It looks like it will be sunny and hot, so bring squirt guns and plenty of water to keep people cool while riding. And of course decorated bicycles, trailers, costumes, signs, noisemakers, sound systems, drums, trailers, and wildly modified bicycles are all highly encouraged.

Because of the warm weather, it’s been suggested that this month’s ride be a ride to the beach (taking our usual round about route of course)! At the beach we could have a picnic where some can go for a dip! May have taken pictures of the colourful rides that have happened of late (Wholesome Undie, etc.). Bring your photos to the beach for after the ride.

UBC riders meet at 4-4:30 p.m. in front of the Student Union Building or at the UBC Bike Kitchen for a group ride to the Vancouver Art Gallery, phone 604-827-7333 for details.

East Van riders meet 4:00 p.m., leaving 4:30 p.m., from Grandview Park on Commercial Drive for a group ride to the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Celebrated around the world, Critical Mass is a grassroots reclamation of public space — on the last Friday of the month — which allows cyclists and other self-propelled people to move safely and comfortably through city streets in a car-free space. Non-polluting forms of transportation are promoted.
