Vancouver Canucks’ Trevor Linden Joins Axel Merckx at Westside Cycling Classic

April 11, 2008 (Vancouver, BC) – Trevor Linden announced today he will ride with Olympic cycling medalist, former Belgium national cycling champion and Tour de France competitor Axel Merckx in the BC Cancer Foundation’s new community fundraising event, The Westside Cycling Classic, on June 1st, to support cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency.

“I’m really looking forward to riding in the BC Cancer Foundation’s Westside Cycling Classic with my friend Axel and I invite all my fans to join us on Sunday, June 1st to be part of a great cause – supporting cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency,” Linden said.

The BC Cancer Foundation’s Westside Cycling Classic, presented by Airey Group, is a 40 km scenic community ride through the UBC endowment lands on Vancouver’s Westside and is open to all recreational cyclists aged four and up. Premier Gordon Campbell and MLA Sindi Hawkins are honorary co-chairs of the event.

The Westside Cycling Classic includes the BC Road Race Championships in the morning, the Community Ride in the afternoon, followed by an outdoor family festival. The top adult fund raiser in the community ride will win a trip for two to the 2008 Tour de France.
