Max. 30 participants. Cost $195 (or $150 for VACC Corporate Members)
This workshop introduces participants to the basics of biking to work, and can be especially helpful in preparation for Bike to Work Week. It provides support and guidance for employees who’ve thought about biking to work, but might need that extra little push to try it. Trained workshop leaders present on such topics as bike safety scenarios, taking your bike on transit route planning, what to wear/carry, and making the workplace bike-friendly. Bike maps and other resources are provided to all workshop participants.
Biking to Work: The Basics of Streetwise Commuting (2 hours)
Max. 30 participants. Cost $245 (or $195 for VACC Corporate Members)
In addition to topics covered in the Lunch Hour Primer, this 2-hour workshop provides a look at the bicycle itself, and goes into further depth on safety scenarios. Nationally-certified bike safety instructors cover the rules of the road for cyclists, and focus on establishing the awareness and knowledge necessary to ride a bicycle safely and confidently in the urban environment. Bike maps and other resources are provided to all workshop participants.
Demystifying Your Bike: the Basics of Bike Maintenance (2 hours)
Max. 15 participants. Cost $245 (or $195 for VACC Corporate Members)
This fun, interactive workshop takes the mystery out of the bicycle. Participants bring their bikes and we show them how to do a basic inspection to make sure it’s in good running order. They learn how to clean and oil their bike, check their brakes and gears, and a few other tricks to make their riding experience more enjoyable. We cover fixing the dreaded flat tire (not really such a big deal after all!), and help participants decide when it’s a good idea to take their bike to the shop.
Streetwise Commuter Skills (2 hours)
This workshop includes both in-class and on-road training, and is for workplaces that want to go a step further to support their employees to use their bike for transportation. Taught by nationally-certified bike safety instructors, participants learn about the safest place on the road to ride, how to maneuver their bike effectively, communicate with other road users, handle riding at night and in the rain, and much more. Participants will gain the skills and confidence to enjoy riding in the city!
