USPRO Championships 2003

June 8, 2003 (Philadelphia, PA) – Despite the traditional early break that was caught, the multiple attacks with “all the right riders” and last-gasp breakaways, today's Wachovia USPRO championships still came down to a sprint, and Italian Stefano Zanini (Saeco) was the fastest. Coming in fourth place was Mark McCormack (Saturn) and as top American, took the Stars-and-Stripes jersey. The final laps around the Lemon Hill circuit saw several attacks and breaks that included Canada's Michael Barry (USPS) and Healthnet's Michael Sayers. The race seemed to be a battle by the two powerhouses, CSC and USPS, but ultimately the race was up for grabs in an all or nothing sprint. In second place was Slovenian fastman Uros Murn (Formaggi Pinzolo) and Kiwi Julian Dean (CSC).
