September 16, 2010 (Louisville, KY) – Organizers of the Greenware® US Gran Prix of Cyclocross, (USGP) announced an international all-star lineup for the Series opening Planet Bike Cup in Sun Prairie, WI on September 25th and 26th. Europeans traveling to Wisconsin to face off against America’s best include: Swiss National Champion, Christian Heule; five time French National Champion – Francis Mourey; up and coming Belgian rider Tim van Nuffel; and 2007 German National Champion Rene Birekenfeld.
Series Director, Joan Hanscom, says “We are thrilled to see such depth in the international field competing in the US and at the USGP. We’re confident the European riders will face stiff competition from the US athletes and this speaks volumes about the growing importance of the US cross scene. It’s always exciting to see America’s best racing head to head and this lineup just makes it more intense. We’ve got the domestically dominant Cannondale/CylocrossWorld.com Team comprised of former USGP and current US National Champion Tim Johnson, Jeremy Powers and Jamey Driscoll; Specialized’s Todd Wells; Kona’s Ryan Trebon and Planet Bike’s own multi-time National Champion and World’s Silver Medalist ,Jonathan Page all toeing the line in this early season test.” Hanscom continued, “Having strong European riders on the line forces everybody to raise their game. Madison and the surrounding areas are so passionate about cycling and sports in general that we know the crowds will appreciate the level of competition lining up to race in their hometown – so come out and bring your cowbells!”
The women’s fields for the Planet Bike Cup are no less stacked with talent. Planet Bike / Steven’s rider Katie Compton – herself s six-time National Champion and World Championship Silver and Bronze Medalist -will make one of her few US appearances before heading off to Europe to focus on the World Cup circuit. Compton will face stiff competition from Cal Giant-Specialized rider Meredith Miller – the top US finisher at the 2010 Worlds; the LUNA Chix juggernaut of Georgia Gould and Amy Dombroski; and World’s Team Members Sue Butler (Hudz Subaru) and Mo Bruno Roy (Bob’s Red Mill / Seven). Women’s cross has never looked so powerful.
The 2010 Greenware® USGP Planet Bike Cup takes place on September 25th and 26th at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI and features two full days of amateur and professional racing.
