USA Cycling’s New 2003 Track Athlete Residence Programs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Sept. 4) – USA Cycling is now accepting
applications for the 2003 Athlete Residence Program for track cyclists at
the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
This resident program focuses on national team development in preparation for international track competition in World Cups, Pan American Games, World Championships and Olympic Games.

Athletes will work directly with USA Cycling’s National Track Coach Des
Dickie and his staff, and will be housed at the Olympic Training Center from
Jan. 1 – Dec. 31, 2003. Candidates must be between the ages of 17-25, have
successfully completed high school or the G.E.D. equivalent and be ranked
within the top-5 nationally in their discipline.

“What makes this program successful is the motivation of the athlete,” said
Dickie. “We’re looking for disciplined athletes with specific goals.
Everything in this program is very structured…our national coaching staff
designs specific programs for each athlete, which we monitor on a daily
basis.

“The individual programs we establish for each athlete are created with the
input of each athlete’s personal coach from their regional clubs,” continued
Dickie. “It is very important to the success of the athlete that we work
hand-in-hand with their club coaches to maximize their potential.”

“The Residence Program is the cornerstone of our track development effort,”
said USA Cycling’s Chief Operating Officer and Director of Athletics Steve
Johnson. “This is a great opportunity for the top young track riders in the
country to benefit from world-class coaching support and training.”

Applications for the Track Athlete Residence Program are being accepted from
now until November 1, 2002. Interested athletes must send a resume to: USA
Cycling, Attn: Des Dickie, one Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, Colo.
80909. USA Cycling will then send an application to eligible athletes for
completion.
