April 27, 2007 (Colorado Springs, Colo.) – USA Cycling announced today the 12-member team that will represent the United States at the Pan American Road and Track Championships May 21-27 in Carabobo, Venezuela.
Six men and six women will travel to South America for the annual Continental Championships for the Americas where significant international ranking points will be on the line.
The men’s track squad features three sprinters — Michael Blatchford (Cypress, Calif.), Adam Duvendeck (Santa Barbara, Calif./Echelon Santa Barbara) and Kevin Selker (Boulder, Colo.) — and three endurance athletes — Brad Huff (Fair Grove, Mo./Slipstream-Chipotle), Colby Pearce (Boulder, Colo.) and Kenny Williams (Kenmore, Wash./First Rate Mortgage).
The women’s track contingent is comprised of two-time individual pursuit world champion Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif./Ouch Pro Cycling) and fellow 2007 world championship team members Becky Quinn (Quakertown, Pa.) and Jennie Reed (Kirkland, Wash.).
In the women’s road events, Tina Pic (Dahlonega, Ga./Colavita-Sutter Home-Cooking Light), Alison Powers (Boulder, Colo./ Colavita-Sutter Home-Cooking Light) and Dotsie Bausch (Irvine, Calif./Advil-Chapstick) will represent the United States. Powers and Bausch are scheduled for both the road race and the time trial while Pic will compete only in the road race.
The U.S. will not field a team in the men’s time trial or road race.
The 2007 Pan American Road and Track Championships begin with the track events May 21-24. The road events begin May 25 with the elite men’s and women’s time trial before the women’s road race on May 26 and the men’s road race on May 27.
