August 31, 2003 (St. Johann, Austria) – The 35th annual Master's Road World Championships wrapped up today in St. Johann, Austria with the US Team claiming nine medals total. The week long event hosted 3,000 racers from 40 different countries for the seven days of competition. With over 50 races, there was a competition for all age groups from 30 years up to 90 plus.

The weather in the picturesque area of St. Johann in Tirol was perfect until Saturday when the temperatures fell and rain moved into the area for the final road race events. Earlier in the week, the time trial and road world cup events saw spectacular conditions on crowd lined roads.

A recognized UCI event, the Master's World Championships gives riders of any age group the opportunity to compete within the excitement of a World Championship event, complete with the honor of representing his or her country in front of passionate European cycling fans with a formal podium ceremony to honor the medalists each night of competition. The area embraces the event each year, with the locals looking forward to the return of the competitors as they take over the town and enjoy the hospitality, food and beauty of the Tirol region. The courses and weather are only part of the challenge offered to the competitors; the fields are deep with talent, at times with over 150 riders competing for the honor of winning a gold medal.

The United States fielded a squad of 25. Organizer Tracy Lea, returning for her 25th year to the event, was recognized by the promoting committee for the event for her efforts over the years. Of the nine medals, the US brought home two gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
