January 10, 2007 — The United States is planning to bid to host the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in either Los Angeles or Chicago. According to reports U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) chairman, Peter Ueberroth, began evaluating “whether or not a U.S. bid for the 2016 Games could be competitive internationally” about 18 months ago.
Madrid, New Delhi, Prague, Rio de Janeiro, Rome and Tokyo are among the international cities that also have expressed interest.
The winning site will be announced by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in October 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
