October 20, 2006 – Germany’s Jan Ullrich has announced he will split from the Swiss Cycling Federation and not renew his Swiss license, but vows he is not throwing in the towel on the sport. Ullrich, who won the Tour in 1997 and has finished on, or close to the podium, practically every year since he won, is still embroiled in allegations that he was using drugs according the to the Spanish drug investigation, Operacion Puerto.

Ullrich was fired by his T-Mobile team due to the allegations and has continued to deny any drug use.
