June 28, 2006 – According to the German daily, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, German pro cyclist Jan Ullrich is prepared to sue the Spanish newspaper El Pais over its insinuations of his alleged drug use. Earlier this week, El Pais broke a story about several riders who’s identities were indicated in code – one of them being “Son of Rudy” – which implied a connection to Rudy Pevenage, Ullrich’s long-time mentor.

Ullrich’s manager Wolfgang Strohband told the German paper that “Jan said to me, ‘We have to do something.’ And because Jan’s denial is so definite, we will follow up…we will go on the offensive against the newspaper, but I still have to speak to our lawyers about it.”
