UCI/MTB World Cup Grouse – Women\’s DH Results

July 12, 2003 (Grouse Mt, Vancouver, BC) – The women's races escaped the torrential downpours and fog that appeared later during the men's race. The women's finals got started around 2 pm on Saturday, with overcast, warm weather.

Canadian Barb Haley was the first down the mountain and the first to experience the ladies' hot seat. Her time was fast enough to keep her there for a few minutes until Trek-Volkswagen's Mio Suemasa came down the mountain. Suemasa was quite comfortable in the lead for several moments until France's Sabrina Jonnier (Intense Cycles) flew down the mountain. Jonnier was ecstatic about her run, anxious for the win.

The wait was long and stressful for Jonnier until Great Britain's Fionn Griffiths flew down the mountainSit was close, and in the end Griffiths' time was less than five hundredths of a second faster than Jonnier.

After Griffiths there was one rider left and that was Luna Chix rider Kathy Pruitt. The former junior world champion rode hard and finished with a time that put her into third place and secured Griffiths the win!

Canada's Danika Schroeter was Canada's highest placed rider in 12th place. Claire Buchar was 15th, Barb Haley in 18th, and Deb MacKillop (Norco) in 19th, Michelle Dumaresq in 20th.
