UCI/MTB World Cup Grouse – DH Qualifiers

July 12, 2003 (Grouse Mt., Vancouver, BC) – It's slightly overcast on the mountain today and the semi-finals have just taken place, with a light breeze coming and the temperature seeming perfect for the riders.

The women's qualifying results are in – former junior world champion Kathy Pruitt (Luna Chix) came out on top with the fastest time. Averaging just over 39 km/h Pruitt came down the course with a time of 2:19.94, less than half a second ahead of Fionn Griffiths. Great Britain's Tracy Moseley (Kona Clarks) was third. Canada's highest placed rider was Michelle Dumaresq who qualified in 8th place, just over three seconds down.

We'll have the men's qualifying results shortly.  Here are some comments from our Canadian riders:

Mathieu Laurin: “I'm feeling really good today. I had a mechanical at Mont-Ste-Anne,  and I won a few races earlier this season. I love the World Cups because everybody is here and everybody is pushing it hard.î

Geoff Pendrel: “The course is short, fast and technical – I think the race is going to be really good.”
