June 26, 2004 (Mont Ste-Anne, Quebec) – Saturday evening’s main event at Mont-Sainte-Anne was the spectacular Nokia 4-Cross. Large amounts of earth were sculpted into a series of difficult bumps, jumps and turns running down the middle of the main ski run. This provided a natural amphitheatre for the large and boisterous crowd.

This was another new 4-Cross course design for Mont-Sainte-Anne. Below the start the course split into two separate lanes. Then the course rejoined, leading into a series of large jumps, followed by two fast turns, and finally more jumps leading into the finish. Spectators were guaranteed to see riders leaping through the air during each heat, much to their delight. Flash bulbs went off constantly as the riders became airborne.

Continuing her winning ways, France’s Sabrina Jonnier, the World Cup Downhill victor earlier this afternoon, proved to be the strongest rider of the small women’s field. Jonnier was able to handily outsprint three riders from the USA, Jill Kintner, Tara Llanes and Marla Streb in the final. Jonnier had come second to Kintner in the 1st heat, but she made sure not to let her get ahead in the subsequent races. Jonnier now has a 100 point lead in the World Cup 4-Cross standings.

Michal Prokop of the Czech Republic was the fastest qualifier and led every heat right from the start gate. It was an exceptional display of bike handling. Prokop defeated Bas De Bever (Netherlands), Brian Schmith (USA) and Guido Tschugg (Germany) in the finals. Prokop takes the lead in the 4-Cross World Cup points standing with his victory.
