UCI World MTB Cup #2 – Women’s XC Results

May 31, 2003 (Fort Williams, Scotland) – Norway's Gunn-Rita Dahle (Merida) and German teammate, Sabine Spitz, (Merida) repeated last weekend's 1-2 World Cup finish (at St.-Wendel, Germany) in style this weekend at Fort Williams, Scotland, the second stop of the UCI World MTB 2003 Cup series. Barbara Blatter (SUI, Specialized MOU) was third.

Dahle, the reigning World Champ, won the UCI World MTB Cup season opener last weekend with a two and a half minute lead over Spitz. Today in Scotland Spitz was able to narrow the gap down to eight seconds.

Canadians Alison Sydor (Trek/Volkswagen), Marie-Helene Premont (Oryx) and Chrissy Redden (Gary Fisher/Subaru) stayed on the continent after last weekend's race in St.-Wendel, Germany to compete in today's race.Teammates Trish Sinclair and Kiara Bisaro from Gears Racing arrived from Canada earlier this week to add to the Canadian contingent.

Premont had a fabulous race breaking the top ten with a ninth place finish followed by Redden in tenth. Bisaro was 20th, Sydor was 27th and Sinclair was 42nd.
