May 31, 2003 (Fort Williams, Scotland) – Last year's World Cup overall winner, Filip Meirhaeghe (BEL, Specialized) has shown that his strength will be a factor once again in this year's UCI World MTB Cup Series. The muscular rider won his first Cup race of the year today in Fort Williams, Scotland.

Only eight seconds behind was Team T-Mobiles' Lado Fumic, (GER) who finished 11th overall after racing only three of five World Cup events last year. He will be a definite contender this year for the overall if he continues with consistent results. In third – similar to round #1 in St.-Wendel, Germany) was Motorex Bianchi's Julien Absalon (FRA).

Three Canadian men competed in today's race including World Champion Roland Green (Trek-Volkswagen) who finished in 12th place, Gears Racing's Mat Toulouse in 48th and Drew Mackenzie who was two laps down in 117th place.
