June 4, 2006 (Willingen, Germany) – Steve Peat (GBR, Santa Cruz Syndicate) flew down the 1.4-kilometre UCI World Cup downhill course in Willingen, Germany in a time of 1:58.30 to take the victory. Peat was the only rider to crack a time of 1:59.00. His win catapulted him into the series lead. South Africa’s Greg Minnaar (RSA, G-Cross-Honda) careened to a second-place spot. He was closely followed by Gee Atherton (GBR, Animal-Giant) in third.

The course was dry and tacky and required riders to put down a lot of power to keep up their momentum. The UCI World Cup event saw a massive crowd of 15,000 spectators.

Four Canadian men raced in the event. The top result was delivered by Andrew Mitchell (CAN, Team Cove Bikes) in 51st place. Kevin Bartkowski (CAN, Team Cove Bikes) was 74th, Jamie Biluk (CAN, Team Cove Bikes) cruised to 77th and Derrick Chambers (CAN) finished 168th.
