July 9, 2005 – Sabrina Jonnier (FRA, Intense) took her second World Cup win of the series today. She was the fastest woman (by over 12 seconds) down the 3.2-kilometre course that dropped 527 vertical metres over jumps, through trees and across a lava rock field.
New Zealand’s Scarlett Hagen (NZL, Iron Horse-Mad Catz) took second place, followed by Great Britain’s Tracy Moseley (GBR, Kona-Les Gets). Canada’s Michelle Dumaresq (CAN, Santa Cruz) pulled off a solid ninth-place ride.
Jonnier leads the series with 1,149 points, followed by Moseley in second with 1,049 points.
In the men’s race, it was Greg Minnaar (RSA, G-Cross-Honda) who was king of the mountain again, taking his third World Cup victory of the season and increasing his series lead. He now has 1295 points over Nathan Rennie’s (AUS, Santa Cruz Syndicate) 720.
Two Aussie’s rounded out the top three, with Jared Graves (AUS, Yeti) and Chris Kovarik (AUS, Intense) in second and third, respectively.
