September 27, 2013 (Florence, Italy) – Matej Mohoric (Slovenia) secured the U23 Men’s UCI Road World Championship title with strong riding on the final lap that no other riders could respond to. He joined and began to drop Julian Alaphilippe (France) on the final lap as Louis Meintjes (South Africa) attacked from the chasing pack to overtake Alaphilippe and catch Mohoric. But Mohoric was too strong getting away on his own to claim the final rainbow jersey victory with Meintjes taking home the silver as Norway’s Sondre H Enger won the bunch sprint for the bronze. The lone Canadian racing was Antoine Duchesne in 42nd.
