UCI Road World Championships In Salzburg

May 9, 2006 – The UCI Road World Championships will be held in Salzburg and the surrounding area from September 19 to 24, 2006. For six days, the city where Mozart was born will be the focus of the cycling world. Fan groups from around the globe will visit Salzburg to experience this showdown live. For Salzburg, this event is the chance of a lifetime — an opportunity that is not to be missed.

The UCI Road World Championships 2006 in Salzburg is the first sports event of such magnitude in this region; in fact, it is one of the biggest sports events worldwide. The UCI Road World Championships 2006 in Salzburg is also considered the trial by fire of Mozart’s hometown with regard to subsequent major sports events. After all, in July 2007 the decision will be made in Guatemala City on the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics. Until then Salzburg must, between 21 and 23 June, surmount the hurdle to join the circle of candidate cities. In so doing, the winter sports paradise Salzburg believes it stands a good chance. One year after selecting the host for the 2014 Winter Olympics, the European Football Cup to be held in Austria and Switzerland is the next sports highlight in the Alpine Republic. Once again Salzburg can play host to a major event.
