UCI News: Canada’s Barbeau Heads New UCI Para-cycling Commission

January 27, 2007 (Courtrai, Belgium) – The UCI Management Committee met in Courtrai, Belgium, where it took note of the doping accusations published the last few days in a Belgian newspaper. Lacking any proof or evidence, the Management Committee will not express for the moment any opinion, however it will follow the case closely.

During this meeting, the Management Committee, expressing full support to its President Pat McQuaid in troubled times for cycling, strongly reaffirmed the obligation for all to respect participation rules to UCI ProTour calendar events, which makes it impossible to accept the unfolding of a competition beyond these rules.

The Management Committee then awarded the following World Championships:

– Mountain Bike and Trial 2009 : Canberra, Australia
– Track 2010 — Road 2011 : Copenhaguen, Denmark

(within the frame of the UCI Bike City concept, which foresees the awarding of different events to one city).

The Management Committee approved the new UCI ProTour anti-doping program, presented last Monday and Tuesday to the UCPT and the ProTour Teams, which’s details will be communicated in the coming weeks.

The Management Committee ratified the Track and BMX 2007, Cyclo-cross 2007-2008 and Mountain Bike 2008 calendars, which are available on the UCI website www.uci.ch.

The UCI Management Committee has also taken note of the Swiss Court provisional decision regarding the registration of two Professional Continental Teams (LPR and Fuerteventura Canarias), which was refused by the UCI due to non-conformity to the rules. In the meanwhile, and also provisionally, these teams will be registered as Professional Continental Teams.

The Management Committee has accepted the new composition of the Para-cycling Commission composed of Louis Barbeau (CAN), President, Théo Hoex (NED), Thomas Beer (GER), Mark Fulcher (AUS), Barry Broadbent (GBR).
