September 1, 2010 (Mont-Sainte-Anne, QC) – The Junior Women’s XC race is soon underway as the second event of the the UCI World MTB and Trials Championships. There are 33 starters and Canada has seven riders racing lead by Canadian champ Kristina Laforge and Laura Bietola. The junior women will do three laps – 16.8km.

Lap 1
Following the start loop it’s Jolanda Neff (Switzerland) leading Pauline Ferrand Prevot (France) in second as the riders start their first lap of three laps. Andreane Lanthier-Nadeau is the top Canadian.

A third of the way thru it’s Neff leading Ferrand with Yana Belomoyna (Ukr) in third followed by Johanna Techt (Ger) in 4th with Yue Bai (China) in 5th. Canada’s Lanthier-Nadeau is around 10th.

Lap 2
It’s Neff with a commanding lead of 39s over Ferrand as the women start lap 2 and in third it’s Belomoyna at 56s – it’s hot out there as the women are strung out behind. Techt is in 4th and Bai is in 5th.

Lanthier comes thru at 4:42 in 12th (we believe) followed by fellow Canuck Lauren Rosser…

CORRECTION it’s Helen Grobert (Ger) in 4th and Bai is in 6th – we’re trying to find out who’s in 5th. It’s very hot out on the course and riders are feeling it.

Lanthier is in 10th (not 12th) and Rosser is in 11th – the riders are almost finished the second lap.

Lap 3 Final
Ferrand comes through alone to start the final lap at 56:25 – no sign of Neff. Then it’s Grobert in 2nd at 2:18 followed closely by Belomoyna in 3rd with Elise Marchal (Bel) in 4th

Rosser is now the top Canuck coming thru in 8th at 5:41 with Lanthier about a minute behind in 10th at 6:43. In 16th is Valerie Meunier at 11:03.

Over the 1/2 way point in the final lap it’s Ferrand in 1st followed by Grobert and Belomoyna battling for the silver and bronze – in fourth is Marchal and in 5th it’s Bai from China followed by Karolina Kalasova (Czech) in 6th.
