UCI MTB World Cup Mont-Sainte-Anne XCC #5 – Batty 8th and Bouchard 20th + PHOTOS

August 10, 2018 (Mont-Ste-Anne, Que.) – Canada’s Emily Batty (Trek Factory Racing XC) was 8th as Annika Langvad (Den) Specialized Racing took the win in the 7-lap XCC Women’s Short Track at the 28th running of the UCI MTB World Cup at Mont-Sainte-Anne.

Haley Smith (Can) Norco Factory Team XC was 10th followed by Catharine Pendrel (Can) Clif Pro Team a strong 15th as she races at her first World Cup since breaking her arm in June (Pendrel, 37, broke her left humerus, the long bone between the shoulder and elbow on training ride with her husband). Catherine Fleury was 18th putting four Canucks in the top 20.

World Cup leader, Jolanda Neff (Sui) Kross Racing Team, was second with Kate Courtney (USA) Specialized Racing 3rd as Langvad attacked with two laps remaining and never looked back.

In the men’s 9-lap affair the top Canadian was Leandre Bouchard (KMC-Ekoi-SR Suntour) in 20th followed by reigning national champ, Peter Disera (Norco Factory), in 21st as Samuel Gaze (Nzl) Specialized Racing emerged as the winner on the final lap.

Early leader Henrique Avancini (Bra) Cannondale Factory Racing XC settled for second with Mathias Flueckiger (Sui) Thömus-RN Racing Team 3rd. World Cup leader Nino Schurter (Sui) Scott-SRAM MTB Racing finished 22nd and is reported to be suffering from a cold. Andrew L’Esperance (Forward Racing Norco) was 35th.
