May 26, 2019 (Nove Mesto, CZE) – Canada’s Haley Smith (Norco Factory Team) took home her first World Cup podium finishing third in the Elite Women’s 26.20km race, start loop plus six laps won by Kate Courtney (USA) Scott-SRAM. Smith had the fastest time on the final lap to claim the historic podium.
“I don’t know what to say just yet, other than that the dreaming, wishing, hoping, and working translated to reality today. So grateful to everyone who was a part of this, and for every single one of you who believed in me before I believed in myself,” tweeted Smith.“That was another breakthrough ride for Haley. It’s great to see her work ethic and attention to detail pay off. It’s was a great day for her and Canada,” said Dan Proulx, Head MTB Coach, Cycling Canada.
