February 02, 2013 – The UCI Management Committee met on Feb. 1 in Louisville, United States, on the eve of the Cyclo-cross World Championships. Ms Tracey Gaudrey, recently elected as President of the Oceania Confederation, took part in her first Management Committee meeting.
In opening the session, the members of the Management Committee took note of the decision by the Organising Committee and UCI managers for the relevant sectors to change the programme for this edition of the Cyclo-cross World Championships due to the forecast of flooding on the course on Sunday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The four events will now all be held on Saturday according to the following schedule:
– Men Junior, 09:45,
– Women Elite, 11:00,
– Men Under 23, 12:30,
– Men Elite, 14:30.
During his introduction to the meeting, the UCI President Mr Pat McQuaid reviewed the situation following the decision to disband the Independent Commission and to set up a Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Mr Artur Lopes (POR, UCI Vice-President) and Mr Daniel Baal (FRA, Member) were selected to represent the Management Committee in discussions on implementing this initiative due to take place between the relevant departments of the UCI and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The Management Committee was also informed about the progress of the first stages of the Stakeholder Consultation that was launched by the UCI at the start of the year. Information was also provided on the next steps of this procedure in which the whole family of cycling will participate.
During this first meeting of the year, the Management Committee awarded the following World Championships:
– 2013 UCI Mountain Bike 4X: Leogang (AUT)
– 2014 UCI Mountain Bike Masters: Lillehammer (NOR)
– 2014 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials: Hafjell/Lillehammer (NOR)
– 2015 UCI Juniors Track: Astana (KAZ)
– 2016 UCI Cyclo-cross: Heusden-Zolder (BEL)
The Management Committee approved the 2013-2014 Track and Cyclo-cross calendars and the 2013 Cycling for All calendar, as well as the 2014 Mountain Bike and BMX provisional calendars. These calendars will be available from Monday at www.uci.ch.
Among the Management Committee’s decisions at the meeting was the extension to the 2013 season of the status quo concerning the use of two-way radio (earpieces) in UCI WorldTour and Women’s World Cup events.
The Management Committee confirmed the inclusion of the Enduro format in the Mountain Bike discipline from 2014 and also approved the organisation of a round of the Para-cycling World Cup in Merano-Marlengo (ITA) on 7-9 June 2013.
With regards to the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro (BRA), the Management Committee expressed its support for a proposal to be made to the International Olympic Committee for the addition to the cycling programme of a points race and BMX Freestyle and Mountain Bike Eliminator events for both men and women.
