January 28, 2012 (Koksijde, Belgium) – Mathieu van der Poel (Netherlands) claimed the first title at the 2012 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Koksijde, Belgium on Saturday. In second at 8s behind was Wout van Aert (Belgium) with Quentin Jauregui (France) winning the sprint for third. Van der Poel came from behind in the 6-lap, 17.72km race, to take the win and is the son of former top Dutch pro, Adri van der Poel, who won the CX Worlds in 1996. Canada’s Yohan Patry placed 40th while teammate Samuel Beaudoin finished 50th.
