April 13, 2008 (Adelaide, Australia) – Canada’s Samantha Cools helped keep her Olympic dreams alive with a podium finish at the UCI Supercross in Australia. She qualified 4th in the time trials for seeding and went on to place 3rd behind New Zealand’s Sarah Walker and USA’s Arielle Martin. Cools has been steadily improving and is on the right track to earning an official berth to the Olympics in August.
On the men’s side David Herman of the USA won his first ever Pro event ahead of Maris Strombergs of Latvia and Kamakazi of Australia. No Canadian men were entered. The Canadian men will not qualify an Olympic berth through UCI points rankings and will now have to rely on a top placing at the Worlds to earn a berth to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The next UCI points ranking event is the UCI Supercross in Denmark, May 10. For full rankings and results, visit www.uci.ch.
